  1. Argh! I ALSO hate the "I'm not religious, I'm spiritual" dichotomy, as though one precludes the other. I'm not entirely sure the reasons why you point it out but there are lots of reasons that I dislike it. First, we are all spiritual, in the sense that we've all got souls that are doing something now and forever. Second, lots of people say this phrase when I'm talking to them about "religious" matters, and what they really mean is that they want to wiggle out of pursuing righteousness. That legalism and righteousness are totally different creatures seems to be beyond the understanding of those who define themselves as "spiritual". Third, it irritates me that people make a false distinction between "religious" and "spiritual" when the term "religious" is obviously most often being used as a shorthand for someone who prioritizes their religion-based values.
    What are your reasons?
